Cremation of the late King in October

The funeral of late King Bhumibol will take place from October 25th to 29th, with the cremation on October 26. Bars may be closed during this time, and there will be no festivities at all during the month of October. If you are in the immediate area of Sanam Luang, please make sure you dress properly and in black. For once, if you hear that the Grand Palace and the temple of the Emerald Buddha are closed, it won’t be the well-known scam of tuk-tuk drivers. Both will indeed be closed all month.

26th October, this year only, has been declared a public holiday. 13th October will be a public holiday every year from now on, to mark the passing of King Rama IX.
